a RARE mistake ....

a 1983 Philippine 50centavo coin, with the scientific name of the endangered Philippine Eagle wrongly spelled ... it is supposed to be Pithecophaga jefferyi.

That is so cool! My aunt gave me a two dollar bill when I was younger (I have no idea where it is now) but this misspelling is much cooler!

leah: nope, i really don't collect coins, but i just thought i'd hang unto this one and some few old ones. :)

srp: i think it was the first batch that they made, then when they found out the mistake, they began making new ones (without the mistake, of course. lol). but we don't use this coin anymore. :)

HA?!?! The government who printed the coins in the mint got the scientific name wrongly spelt?! What did the government do after that? Were the coins recalled? Made new ones?
