Happy New Year!

I have finally found a baklava that I liked... :P
Every time we go home to hubby's place we always pass by this restaurant (Manos Greek Taverna in Tagaytay). It seems to have been there for ages and so we decided to have dinner there last Dec.26th, after attending Holy Mass. The restaurant is not that big and good thing it wasn't as full either...service was fine and here are some of the food that we ordered:
So sorry, forgot some of the names...had to call them by their generic names. ;P
Appetizers: Greek Salad and something that resembles fried lumpia except that it had spinach and feta cheese inside ( think it was called Panokopita)...
Main Course: grilled pork (i think it was named Souvlaki), grilled pork chops, moussaka (dish that resembles lasagna but had eggplants), grilled tilapia, and spaghetti (though of course it was named differently because it was mixed with beef and other spices...lol)
...and lastly, we just had to have their baklava and Greek coffee...!!
We paid around Php2,000 for the meal (five adults and two kids). Honestly, I think it was pretty expensive (am stingy like that, lol) but since we all enjoyed the meal, then I guess it was well worth it. Would we go back there again? Yes, we would. I would love to try their yoghurt shake real soon... :)

ps.THANK YOU so much for a wonderful year! Hoping and praying that everyone will have a great 2011! Stay safe, healthy, and blessed, everyone! :)

This was one of the things that i got...so loving it! :)

We've been 'playing' with it and so far we're loving the results; sure, it had it's 'limitations' but for that price (just under Php5T) it was definitely worth it! ;)

Spending...

0 shared thoughts
Most people celebrate Christmas, and for some it means good food shared with great friends. The amount and type of food that you want to share is a personal thing, and most of the time it means that you need to spend more than the usual. Some might even avail of the payday loans, or maybe stretch their credit limits a bit. But whatever the decision, responsibility must not be far behind...

As for us, nothing overly dramatic. We spent Christmas day at hubby's place, while our New Year's Eve we plan to spend it here at home... :)

Food Friday

I know, most (if not all) of us are familiar with this Christmas dessert/tradition... the FRUITCAKE. But not everybody likes it. I must admit, I don't like most of the fruitcakes being made out there (bland, dry, and too many candied fruits)..but this one I loved (yup, in the past tense, since we ate it all up a few weeks ago). Know why? Because it had more nuts and raisins than candied fruits, plus I can definitely taste that brandy in every bite... :)

What amazed me even more was that it was still moist and delicious even after being stored inside the refrigerator for more than a year...! We got this last year from my sister, who bought that from a religious congregation somewhere in Fairview (Quezon City, Philippines). Sorry, couldn't remember the name, and it was given to us simply gift-wrapped; no address/name of the congregation included.

A Blessed and Happy Christmas to all!

ps. posting half a day earlier than the usual...

It was too sweet for us...almost like soft drink. ;)

Christmas shopping...

0 shared thoughts
Christmas is coming...!!! Are you done with your Christmas shopping yet? If not, and if you have the means to buy online, then why not try shopping online? Personally, I would love to stay away from the department stores right now...the last time we went there (and it was two weeks ago!) it was so chaotic! I don't think I'm brave enough to face a similar crowd again. The sad thing is, I still haven't gotten anything for my mom, and so I tried writing this phase on a search engine: mom jewelry red envelope. Guess what came out? Lots of elegant (and affordable) jewelries for mom! So sweet!

Hmmm...I wonder what I'd get for my dad...?

Bought these last weekend at the UP-AyalaLand TechnoHub in Diliman...first time I tried baklava. I've been hearing raves about this rich dessert that it really got me interested. It's mostly made up of nuts, honey, butter, and spices placed between sheets of phyllo dough. Six small portions (around 2in x 1in each) was about Php250 at Mister Kabab.

My verdict? After a couple or so of bites (yup, ate two portions almost all at once, lol) I wasn't really impressed. I was looking for something different...something that will make me go 'WOW'. But sadly, nada. Maybe I was expecting too much (this was my first time), or maybe I should have tried their pistachio-filled baklava; which was actually my first choice but since it wasn't available, I opted for the walnut. [By the way, I thought that baklava was supposed to be filled with pistachios, walnuts and almonds...with cinnamon.] I don't think I'll buy their baklava again. We still managed to eat the whole thing up, though. Didn't want it to go to waste! :D

So my search for another baklava starts again.... ;)

This is quite common around here: placing a rosary on your car's rear view mirror.
The same goes for traffic, too...but i guess that that's everywhere!  :/

Remembering...

I like receiving cards. Not hate/death cards, of course, LOL! I prefer friendly ones from friends or families. But sadly it's not that popular anymore; so these days when I do get one, I save the date cards and make sure it won't be thrown away recklessly. I guess the decline has partly been because of the easy access to the internet (which I think is both a bad and a good thing) as well as some advocates regarding the use of less paper (which in turn will help save some of the trees) to save the planet. That's great, really.

Still, I can't help but miss receiving cards from friends. But it's time to move on, right? We can always receive e-cards...like what they always say, "It's the thought that counts!".... ;)

Good Natured Don

A former classmate migrated to the USA a few years after finishing college and he stayed there for more than a decade before deciding to visit his relatives here again. No, he wasn't trying to stay away; he was just so busy working. Now that he has allowed himself to take a breather he has been traveling around the world (yup, no kidding!) just to visit friends and relatives. We've been calling him "Don" now because of his "jetsetting" lifestyle and we even said that nothing's too good for him these days except for the setai new york luxury hotels where he stays sometimes. He takes the jokes good-naturedly and just keeps on reminding us that nothing can ever replace the happiness of seeing old friends and family again. Hence, he said that as long as he can afford it, he will continue visiting old friends and family whenever he can.

Awwww...so sweet of him! :)

on pleasing other people...

0 shared thoughts
It is hard to please everybody. Sometimes you try pleasing them and that's great if they reciprocate the action, but if not, then do you think it's still worth pleasing them? For some, it might be, but for me...well, being trampled on (i know, it sounds so harsh) doesn't sound like a good way to spend my time. LOL

Think it's too much to ask if they can 'help' you in return, too?

Food Friday

I like leftovers for breakfast... :)

Well, it was only the roasted chicken that was the leftover; steaming the asparagus (together with the rice) and mixing it with the fresh sliced tomatoes (after which I drizzled slightly with sesame oil and a dash of salt) was all the work that I did.

This weekend...

Christmas is definitely getting nearer and nearer. I like it because it means more family time as well as lots and lots of food! Of course, we must not also forget why we celebrate Christmas, right? We must give thanks for all the blessings we've received as well as try sharing what we have to those who need it most... :)

On a lighter note, have you been to the malls lately? We have (and honestly, I am getting a bit tired of it...sigh), and we braved going to the mall last weekend since our eldest son needed to get a Barong Tagalog for their Anklung performance. We accomplished the task hurriedly, but we just couldn't resist looking at some of the creative point of purchase displays around! I mean, talk about brightly splashed colors and innovative designs just so your attention will be caught! The Christmas decorations as well as the displays were eye-catching! That's a good sign, I guess. LOL

Where will we be going this weekend? Well, we were supposed to go to the province, but can't, since hubby needs to leave quite early (around 4am) and I don't feel like getting up at such an early hour...so we stay here at home! hehehe...

Walking shoes for me...

0 shared thoughts
I think I need a new pair of shoes. Nope, not the high-heeled type of shoes (even if I don't own a pair, lol), but one that is more practical:something that's really comfortable enough for walking. Oh, the shoes I have now are comfortable enough, but not suitable for walking/running exercises. Nothing like one of those nike wrestling shoes, hehehe, but I was thinking more of something like the ones I had last year. I gave that away to the flood victims, which I know needed it more than I do. Besides, it was already more than two years old...about time I gave those up! Mind you, it was still in good working order. I liked it, but it was time to move on... ;)

Won't buy one this weekend...I honestly don't feel like going to the mall. Maybe next year... :D

And again...

2 shared thoughts
We all want to stay healthy. Well, I know I do! Sometimes getting the habit of eating healthy (and mostly getting that exercise!) can be quite a chore, though. I wish it was as easy as clicking "learn more" in most sites online, but it's not. But I guess the most important thing is that I control what I eat and be pretty selective about it. Exercise is important, too, but I think the diet is a bit more important. That's just a personal opinion, though. Others might have experienced it differently.

Now I should really be serious about getting healthy.

It's never too late...I hope. :)

Itouch....yeah. I think. ;)

I have always been intrigued by the shots taken by some of my friend's iphones. I mean, I think the applications are wonderful and just my type: grungy, yellowed/antique, retro. Some of them are free to download, too!

However, I already have my phone (with a camera that boasts of a 12.1MP, hehehe) and doesn't really need another phone. So hubby suggested I get the itouch. It has most of the features of the iphone, except for the phone.

Honestly, am having second thoughts. I mean, it is kind of expensive...even if it doesn't have the phone feature. Hmmmm.....

Emails

0 shared thoughts
I get all kinds of emails...chain letters/forwarded messages, emails with messages that says "click here" and brings you to different sites (some are spammy while some are just plain cute), and the usual ones from friends and family. Now don't get me wrong...it's fun receiving emails as long as they are not spam or unsolicited ones. However, most of the time there seems to be more spam mails these days. Not sure why, but is it because Christmas is coming? Yeah, maybe.

Just a personal thought and voicing it out. :P

My eldest son introduced me to this snack a couple of months ago ... it was kind of weird at first (am not used to eating them 'alone') but after a couple or so of seaweeds later I couldn't stop. We both loved the crispy/salty/spicy flavor. My two year old tried it, too...and he was good after three little bites (his fourth bite was big and too spicy). I think he'd like it if it wasn't too spicy...lol.

As for hubby? Well, he hasn't tried it yet. Usually we don't leave leftovers. :D

ps. I think that this can also be used together with other dishes, like in hot noodle soups...or maybe even in a sandwich! ;P

Nope, it's not for me (though he did ask me if I want it, lol). He's not going to use it for himself, either. He plans to give it to someone very close to the family... :)

Blabbing

0 shared thoughts
Am not much of a car fan (though I do find them quite useful and convenient most of the time), but it is important to know the basics. Like changing the tires, or maybe get an idea what brake rotors are and how they function. I have never changed a tire, but have watched people change them countless of times. I must admit, I don't find it appealing, though. lol.

I guess it's because of the grease...when I was young we had this empty lot beside our house and that was where my father parked his three trucks. There used to be a garden there before, but when the trucks arrived...well, the garden had to go. For the life of me I never got interested in the trucks except when we were playing hide and seek. But we had one playmate who was so interested he used to tag along with the drivers and mechanics all day long! Last I heard was that he became a mechanical engineer...good for him! :)

Nothing really...just wanted to blab tonight. ;)

Wishful thinking

Lately every time we visit one of those electronic shops we almost always go to the television section. Guess it's because our television is now showing signs of giving up. Well, it has been with us for almost twelve years now...yup, an oldie. lol. The only thing wrong with it is the cable connection, though. Our youngest (who is always on the lookout for something to dabble with his hands...) finds the cables interesting, I think. We always tell him that it's not safe, but somehow he never listens (or tries to remember). Now it's all wobbly and the reception is erratic. It stays fine, as long as it isn't moved. I wonder if we need to get one of those vga to hdmi cables? I guess for now, not yet. Once we upgrade to one of those LCD/LED televisions, then we just might....

Wishful thinking, I know. LOL

Getting fat?

0 shared thoughts
After looking at some of the pictures taken by hubby last weekend, I noticed that I have grown considerably 'chubbier'. LOL. That's not good (but I still have a good laugh every time I look at the pictures, hehehe), so I think I ought to watch what I eat these days (and the coming days hereafter). Or maybe I should also take a peek at what good herbal weight loss formula(s) can be found out there, huh?!

I believe that to lose the weight means changing the lifestyle, too. Oh, nothing totally drastic, but something that is healthy and adaptable (for me). One thing for sure, though...I need to cut down on my carbohydrate intake. tsk. tsk. tsk....and I so love eating rice! Oh well...

When I was younger I had always thought that I was heavy. In other words and plainly put: FAT. Little did I know that I was lucky to have been 'fat' those days! LOL. Actually, I was a bit chubby while I was starting high school, but eventually I trimmed down by the time we graduated. Still, I considered myself fat; but was always laughed at by a close friend whenever I told her I was fat.

After a couple of decades later (yup, that long!) I still consider myself fat. Oh, I have gained weight; around ten to fifteen pounds. Should I be concerned and check out those apidexin reviews? Everyone seems to be crazy about it. Or should I just do it the 'old-fashioned way'?

Oh well... :-/

I've tasted other green tea ice cream before, but this one's the best so far!

That's Macha Ice Cream from Teriyaki Boy (Mall of Asia branch). It is green tea ice cream encircled with tempura flakes. Quite new for me (the tempura flakes added to ice cream)...though of course the tempura flakes could be replaced by cereals, if you want the added crunch that it brings. Personally, I'd rather have cereals. lol. But it was the taste of the ice cream that got me...it did have that "tea" flavor.

I loved it (though my two year old tried spitting it out immediately after I let him taste it; he thought that it would taste just like the ones we have here at home, lol)!

Just look at how I licked the bowl clean...shameless me...I know. ;P

ps. it did taste a lot like green tea, so if you're not into tea you might not like it. :)

I like eating sweets every now and then...specially when it's free. lol.
This was the first time that I tasted this type, though. At first I was kind of put off by how it looks (each candy is around three-fourths of an inch and quite uninteresting), but take no notice of it's appearance. It is addicting! For me, anyway.

The different colors suggests different tastes (but the macadamia nutty taste is still quite prominent; they didn't scrimp on the nut..you can really taste it quite distinctly):
Yellowish is the original flavor (I liked this best!!!)
Green is for green tea (yup, subtle hint there)
Brownish is for brown sugar (my least favorite...it's not sweeter than the others, but...)

Right now there are only two left from the pack.
Yup, I will be devouring those soon. Very very soon. :D

i have always liked the sloping branches of these trees every time we pass by Tagaytay on our way to hubby's hometown...
this time there were less leaves than the usual. no idea why, really. but i can hazard a guess.

Hubby got the new vehicle just this year and he plans on adding one of those auto roof racks. However, he is yet undecided but has taken a second look at one of those yakima racks being advertised online. Some of his officemates are also thinking of doing the same thing, but like him, hasn't decided on anything yet. It is kind of expensive, but we don't want to buy inferior designs and quality since we know that it will just be a source of problem after a short time.

Hopefully, before the year ends he'd have decided already! :)

A few weeks ago hubby, our two kids, and I, went to the mall to look at some tiles. We saw lots of gorgeous tile designs and I could just imagine having them on my wall, or floor. But, we were there on a 'mission' (to buy some of those large but boring and practical tiles), so we didn't dwell much on those. We also saw some pedestal sinks which I think would go well inside our bathroom. Unfortunately, since we were in a hurry (our youngest was getting sleepy already) I forgot to ask for the prices. I saw some practical ones (the other ones were just too luxuriously big, lol) that I was really interested in...hopefully, when we get back there again I'd have the time to ask them! Plus the budget too, of course. ;)

Having worked at a farm, I know that having a pump can be very beneficial. My former boss used to have problems with his water supply, so he decided to buy a water pump, but a small one at first. It totally failed him (and to think he wanted to save money!)...so he finally decided to buy one of those commercial pumps. Sure, it costs more but in the long run it worked wonders for the farm animals as well as the farm's root crops. It was trouble free, too.

Lesson learned: don't hesitate to buy the best that you can get; the service it gives back will be the best that you can get, too. :)

Christmas is definitely getting nearer and nearer! So, have you taken out those unique ornaments for your xmas tree and displayed them? Well, I haven't. LOL. Not yet, anyway. I doubt if I can get to display them since usually we spend our Christmas at my In-law's house in the province. ;P

Honestly, I am excited about the idea of my family being together most of the time...during regular days my older son is at school while hubby is at work (sometimes he even has to be away for a week, specially if he needs to go abroad). So that leaves just me and my youngest son. But don't get me wrong...the house isn't really quiet even with just the two of us! We can be pretty noisy, too...specially if the television is blaring. :D

I have heard and read reviews about the different treatment for acne, both online and offline; in different media (television, radio, internet, friends...etcetera). But somehow, I believe that each person is different, so it follows that not one treatment might be effective for all. It could be a combination. Or not. It's a good thing there are doctors out there who can help.

Now all I have to do is find the time (and the right doctor!) who can help me with my pimple problem... :)

My two year old loves dancing...i guess that's relatively pretty common for children at that age. It's just that my older son wasn't so much into dancing or singing at that age; he was more into just exploring things quietly.

First Job

After I graduated from college some classmates and I decided to accept an offer made by a private company to train (and hopefully hire) us for their cattle farm. We were all pretty excited about it and we didn't know what to expect. As fresh graduates (we just took the board exam, then, and were waiting for the results) we felt that we were ready for anything. Boy, were we ready! lol.

It has been ages since that happened, and I must admit that sometimes our working conditions weren't even decent. We just had to get by and work things out in the field. No fancy womens boots for us ladies...but we really didn't mind. As long as we were together, we were having fun.

Ahhh, those were the days. :)

Pimples...

0 shared thoughts
Do you suffer from an occasional flare up of acne/pimple/zits? I do, even at my age! LOL. Honestly, if someone tells me "zit pop" right now I would be horrified. Well, that's because you aren't really supposed to pop your zits since the resulting scar may be worse than the zit itself! Well, at least that's what I was taught.

I'd like to believe that now we have more products that are affordable, safe, and easy to use on our faces. I am still hesitant about using "new" products since I don't think I like the idea of putting something on my face that's synthetic/unnatural.

I wonder if our former helper's remedy (she used raw calamansi juice on her face when her pimples broke out) would be useful in times like this...lol.
