A Blessed and Happy New Year to all!!!

Great Gift ...

0 shared thoughts
It's that time of year again when people are more friendlier and thoughtful (and hopefully, also happier) than the usual. You just can't help it since there seems to be something in the air ... maybe it's the crispness, or the cool weather all around. Here in my country we normally don't have snow, but still it gets to be quite cold, specially when you go up the mountains. How I just love the cool weather!

Admittedly, this is also the time of gift giving, and I have always liked the idea of giving out personalized holiday gifts. Specially practical ones, like thumb or flash drives. I particularly find them useful and totally convenient specially if I don't have my computer with me and I needed to download some files. You just plug them into a computer's usb port and download the file(s). So easy and hassle-free! You can download anything, even pictures or music files. So cool, huh?!

In this day and age most of the people I know uses the computer (and most probably are also familiar with storage devices like the flash or thumb drives), so the 20% off given by Pexagon for their personalized gifts is a real steal!

Almost New Year's Eve (in my place, anyway) ... and am sure most are excitedly waiting for "the moment". Can't blame them since this event only comes once a year. lol. Am happy about it, though I don't care much for the noise. People still buy noisy (and dangerous) firecrackers around here, and I'm not into that stuff. Boring me, huh?!

LOL. :D

Weekly Questions (#32 and #33)

WQ #33: How was your Christmas?
This time it's different for us, since we have a new baby in the family. We couldn't be as mobile as we want (the baby's still small to go malling, lol. in our opinion, anyway. hehe), so we went to my MIL's place in the province to celebrate Christmas. Our older son, who first wanted to spend his Christmas vacation at my parent's place (also in the province), decided finally to join us since he said that he didn't want to miss his younger brother's first Christmas (sweet, i know ... lol). We all had a wonderful time, just being together. :)

WQ #32: What are the Christmas traditions you and your family practice?
We usually get together and have a feast. lol. Nobody gets to look online for car insurance quotes since everybody's busy eating. Of course, sometimes there are quiet times but that rarely happens. Everyone's so busy talking and eating that there wouldn't be enough room to just sit and be quiet.
In hubby's family (we were there on Christmas Day) we ate noche buena together and then the cousins go visit and greet the lolos and lolas (and maybe get something in return, like the "red envelope" or a new shirt, or food specially prepared for them) and do lots of eating and chatting. There were certainly lots of visitors at my MIL's place that day. Tiring (and noisy! lol) but a fun-filled day for us all.

Happy Holidays!

Just being practical ... ;P

Are you interested in exotic stuffs like Moroccan furniture? I am, and so are a couple or so of friends in the province. They liked dressing up their houses, that they just had to subscribe to some of the magazines available pertaining to house decorating. I think that's really cool, though I didn't subscribe to the magazines. They let me borrow theirs, and yes, you may say that I am a cheapskate (lol), but I am being practical, too. I do so prefer surfing online for any Moroccan furniture or similar products. That way I don't need to have my house cluttered with unnecessary papers which could become a fire hazard later on .... :P

Plan

Sometimes I'm not even sure if we need a tv stand. That's because most of the high-end television sets nowadays can be mounted directly on the wall because they are thinner than the "usual" television sets. We don't own the high-tech television set ourselves, but it is part of our plan to buy one someday. Not really a priority these days, but somewhere along the line it's there. :)

And so this is Christmas

It's Christmas Day! :D

Yeah, and here I am in front of the computer, blogging and tweaking my pictures. I find it really relaxing dabbling with my shots and seeing how far i could get with "mutilating" them. lol

Just dropping by ...

Personal opinion ...

0 shared thoughts
This is that time of year when lighting fixtures are pretty important. I mean, it would be a pretty drab christmas without the lights! But that's just my opinion, of course, since the true spirit of christmas does not really depend on how lavish your preparations are; it's more of how sincere your feelings are when it comes to the occasion. Again, just my personal opinion. lol. :D

Getting low ..

1 shared thoughts
Now that the holidays are here, I am so sure that there lots of us out there who are concerned with our credit limits. I mean, sometimes we do tend to overspend (well, I do! lol) specially if we want to get that something special for our loved ones, and it's pretty expensive. Using our credit cards is so easy, but paying could be quite difficult, specially if you find out that your cash is getting low.

It's always a good idea to be aware how much we are spending, and to make sure that we can pay the amount before the due date. :)

Last weekend my sister happened to pass by Cinnabon and decided to buy a box of these. Ate one right away (that's why it's missing one piece). lol.

Sinfully delicious! :D

Until now ...

When I was in college I used to watch stage plays (I just loved the presentations back then!) and would sometimes wonder how they achieved all those lighting effects. Not like the home theater lighting which I saw in one my friend's home, but something more dramatic. Of course I never did get to go backstage and look at the stuffs since I wasn't supposed to go there. Still, it didn't stop me from thinking. Until now. ;P

Just couldn't resist taking another sunrise shot through our window. :)

Rest ...

I honestly have no idea what those performance parts can do to a car ... but am sure hubby knows. He loves tinkering with the car when he has the time, but lately there doesn't seem to be time for that anymore. Having a young one at home can be a handful sometimes, and that's why we'd rather rest than do something else. :D

Staying slim ...

I know that after this holiday there will be lots of individuals who will be needing fat burners! Can you just imagine all the temptations ... the food found in all of the parties! Or just the holiday goodies! As for me, I don't think I'll be buying one anytime soon, but still, I hope that I won't gain too much this holiday season! :D

The Spirit of BEAR-iuca

-START COPYING HERE-

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there lived a powerful Genie Princess named Mariuca who was known throughout the land as the friendliest, most popular blogger in the blogosphere kingdom. Adored and admired by international visitors and commentators from around the world, the Genie Princess travels the blogosphere on her magical flying carpet, always looking for ways to share her good fortune with others.

Over the past two years of blogging, Mariuca has met so many new people, from all walks of life and all over the world, each one bringing a little of their culture and lifestyle when they visit and comment on Mariuca’s two sites. So on her 2nd Blog Anniversary, Mariuca wanted to celebrate with all of her international blogosphere buddies by hosting a bear-naming contests at Wishing On A Falling Star and Mariuca’s Perfume Gallery and to pass her two lucky, cuddly teddy bears along to the winners who came up with the best names.

On the opposite side of the world, from the moment Roxy (the prolific Roxiticus Desperate Housewives blogger) and her sweet daughters London and Maddie saw the teddy in his personalized t-shirt and blue muffler at Wishing On A Falling Star, they knew that he needed to come to live with their family in Mendham, NJ. The three New Jersey girls named him immediately and burst into a wonderful song for BEAR-iuca:

BEAR-iuca, BEAR-iuca, amazing teddy cheer.
BEAR-iuca, BEAR-iuca, we’d love you to come live here!

Mariuca received 16 possible names for the Mariuca Teddy Bear, making it hard for the Genie Princess to choose just one…then Alakazam! A bolt of lightning delivered the perfect way to share BEAR-iuca’s good fortune to bloggers around the globe. While the soft, stuffed, cuddly BEAR-iuca is on his way to live with Roxy, London, Maddie and Rex in the Roxiticus Valley, the Spirit of BEAR-iuca is racing through the blogosphere to bring happiness, holiday cheer, and beary best wishes to everyone who welcomes him into their online home and passes along the BEAR-iuca good luck charm to ten friends.

Weekly Questions: (#29 & #30)

WQ #30: What frugal or practical Christmas tips (does your family practice) that you can share to cut down on Christmas-related expenses but not necessarily sacrificing on quality?
One thing would be to give gifts that we made ... like baked goodies. But lately we haven't been doing that since everyone's usually busy during the holidays. So, sometimes we just order the goods instead. Still cheaper compared to buying "branded" ones. :)

WQ #29: What special Christmas memories do you still cherish as the years pass by?
There are lots, but the ones that I remember was the excitement I felt everytime I put my hand inside the socks where some of my Christmas presents will be placed. I never know what to expect ... one time I found some gift-wrapped rocks inside! LOL. Courtesy of my fun loving brother, of course. I wish my son could experience the same thing ... but the hanging of socks is no longer being practiced at home ... primarily because the gifts won't fit there anymore. Except for some candies .. and other knick knacks. But who knows ... maybe this year they'd be at it again! :D

I have been thinking what to get for my nephew this Christmas and somehow sports gifts seems like a good idea. I do know that he loves playing basketball, but he already has loads of balls. Maybe he'll appreciate a new skateboard, but am not really sure. Or how about a new pair of sneakers?

We'll see. Let’s hope he’ll like them when he sees what we’ve chosen. :)

Stay that way ...

With hubby away, sometimes i feel like things are a handful for me. That's why we really do need a helper around the house. The first one was fine, at first. After a few months, though, she showed her true colors. Am not really sure if she was sick, but she kept saying that she has difficulty in breathing everytime she goes up the flight of stairs, or after she cleans the bigger room.

Quite annoying, really. We had to fire her and get another one. Hopefully the new one won't be the same. She's ok, so far; and I hope it stays that way! ;P

My father loves the outdoors and so I was thinking the other day if he got that 5.11 Tactical Knife which I showed him some time ago. I know he'll find it useful, specially when he goes out to visit the farm. He is kind of old-fashioned when it comes to doing stuffs there, so am sure he'll find lots of use for that knife.

Speaking of old fashioned, I remember those past Christmas seasons when things were pretty simple and us kids were really just content with what we'll find in our socks. Sure,we voiced out our wants, but never really thought we'd get them. Some of them were quite impossible, anyway; like a talking doll (finding one in the province was next to impossible! lol) for myself. What we got were mostly stuffs like chocolates and apples (a rare treat during those days), new clothes, and some cash. Our breakfast would be something special and we would eat together. Then attend Holy Mass at the local church together, too. Really nice. But since I was just a kid then I never really thought about it much. All I could think about then was the food and the presents. lol. Oh yeah, I was excited about meeting and greeting my neighbor playmates, too. We would show each other what we got and sometimes share them. Not all the time, though. You can't share your cash of course! :D

These days Christmas here is usually spent at my mother-in-law's place. There are lots of food prepared and the best part (for me) are the kids excitedly opening their gifts. Too bad my son won't be joining us this Christmas since he has decided to go visit my parents instead; where his cousins are also going (they, more or less, are of the same age bracket). He'll be travelling with my sister and niece. So that leaves with just hubby, myself, and our three-month old son spending Christmas at our MIL's place.

What about you? Going somewhere this Christmas Season? :)

Food ... that's something that's really interesting. For me, anyway. lol. Our new helper used to cook "kakanins" and so yesterday i asked her to cook some "biko" for us. I tried cooking that before, but it turned out to be such a disaster i vowed never to cook it myself again! lol.

I hope to find the courage again ... :P

Risks ...

I just finished paying for a life insurance that I got some years back, and I know it wouldn't hurt if I search for competitive term life insurance rates online. Sometimes people don't like taking out insurance for themselves, but for me it's a great way to "save". Though of course things might go wrong with the company in the future; but that's part of investing, the risk involved.

But anyway, let's just wait and see ...

I am not really fond of sexy lingerie myself, and that's why when some well-meaning friends sent me a couple it did nothing but stay in the cabinet for months! I am the pajama type of girl so when a friend mentioned that she adores sexy lingeries I immediately sent her the stuffs. Wouldn't want them to go to waste; and am glad somebody actually appreciates them! :)
