Ms. Winnie, who blogs over at Something Sweet, with her post: Gluten-Free Chocolate Cake for Passover

Another delicious treat made by Winnie! I have featured her Food Friday post before (here) so some of you might be familiar with her food blog already. Still, I encourage you to check out her latest creations! You wouldn't regret it. :)

Bunuelos {Quick and Tasty Egg Doughnuts}, that's my food post for today.

I remember my sister making bunuelos when we were younger, but it was a complete disaster (it was burnt on the outside and raw on the inside, lol)...so am trying it now. I figured am older now (LOL), so maybe my result will be much better. I don't have her recipe, though...so am using this recipe from here: Filipino Snacks and Sweets (by Norma Olizon-Chikiamco).

Ingredients:
  • 50g (1/4 cup) solid vegetable shortening
  • 60g (1/4 cup) butter
  • 250 ml (1 cup) water
  • 125g (1 cup) sifted flour
  • 5 eggs
  • 250 ml (1 cup) oil
  • 60g (1/4 cup) powdered sugar for dusting

Procedure:
  • Put shortening, butter and water in a large saucepan. Bring to boil. When water is briskly boiling, stir in the flour. Continue stirring until mixture is smooth and separates from the sides of the pan. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool for 10mins.
  • Beat in eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition. Set the mixture aside for a few minutes at room temperature.
  • Heat the oil in a frying pan. Scoop about 2tbsp. of the batter and fry in hot oil until golden brown. Repeat with the remaining batter, adding extra oil if necessary. Drain cooked doughnuts in paper towels then dust lightly with sugar before serving

Serves 6
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 20mins

My youngest son loved these...and I laughed when he said (as I gave some of them to my sister), "I'm going to miss them". He was referring to the doughnuts. :D

Reminder: Please don't forget to link back (a simple text would be great, or you may use the buttons provided here). Also, please try to visit the other party-goers and leave some commentluv to let them know that you dropped by. Many thanks! :)

I forgot to write that your "bunuelos" remind me very much of the special doughnuts my Mom use to make for Hanukkah (one of our holidays)

@Winnie: happy to have featured one of your posts again! that's interesting (re: similar to the doughnuts that your Mom made during Hanukkah)...food is indeed a universal thing! :)

@Heather: i guess this doughnut was an influence from the Spaniards that occupied our lands for around 333 years! lol.

@pinkc00kies: oh yes, that would be a wonderful idea...maybe jam, or chocolate! thanks! :)

@Tetcha: if only there were some left, i'd give you some, sis. :)

many thanks again for sharing your yummy posts and for the commentluv, ladies! :)

I always love doughnuts like this. Just plain glazed or sugar-dusted. Just need my coffee to go with them!
