My post for this week is something that we had along the road while in Davao (Philippines). This was a place that was frequented by travelers and the area was known for their hito (catfish) dishes. I believe they even have their own catfish ponds located near their restaurant. I definitely saw some fish ponds while we were on the road...
Nothing fancy, definitely. It was one of those eateries where you can even eat with your bare hands, though of course, spoons and forks are always available. No knives, unless maybe if you ask for it. :P
We had their fried hito/catfish, chicken tinola with malunggay, porkchops (had it chopped), rice, and of course...durian! :P
The catfish was really crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside..it was fresh and good! I think I could have eaten the whole fish all by myself! lol. The chicken tinola was a bit tough (they used native chicken, apparently) but the soup was delicious - perfect paired with the other fried dishes. They also gave each of us our own dipping saucers with diced red onions and green tomatoes, whole bird's eye chilis, cucumber slices, and calamansi/calamondin. Soy sauce, coconut vinegar, salt, pepper, and ketchup were also available.
Everything was served piping hot (except for the durian), which made up for the ten (or was it fifteen?) minutes wait. :)
I would eat there again, if given the opportunity. But this time, I'll just maybe go for the catfish dish. And the durian. :P
Appreciate much your taking the time to share and link your food posts here at Food Friday! :)

I'll have a go at the tinola :) Catfish is very common where I live.
How I wish I can teach myself to like eating durian. I actually don't mind its smell, but I seriously can't appreciate its taste.
Fresh sugar cane juice is delicious!
Thanks for hosting.
I like those small diners/eateries. They always serve comforting and yummy home dishes :)
Hi Maiylah! Your post made me crave for a good home-cooked meal right now, specially the chicken tinola since it's been raining a lot these past few days. The perfect comfort food for staying in the house. Okay, that made me hungry :P
