Food Friday

16 shared thoughts
I know, most (if not all) of us are familiar with this Christmas dessert/tradition... the FRUITCAKE. But not everybody likes it. I must admit, I don't like most of the fruitcakes being made out there (bland, dry, and too many candied fruits)..but this one I loved (yup, in the past tense, since we ate it all up a few weeks ago). Know why? Because it had more nuts and raisins than candied fruits, plus I can definitely taste that brandy in every bite... :)

What amazed me even more was that it was still moist and delicious even after being stored inside the refrigerator for more than a year...! We got this last year from my sister, who bought that from a religious congregation somewhere in Fairview (Quezon City, Philippines). Sorry, couldn't remember the name, and it was given to us simply gift-wrapped; no address/name of the congregation included.

A Blessed and Happy Christmas to all!

ps. posting half a day earlier than the usual...

ps. should have done this EONS ago: adding a backlink to those who played as my way of saying thanks for linking back. :)

*I don't think my other blog will be 'operational' real soon...and I don't think I have the time to make another blog, so Food Friday is here to stay. For now. I think. Many many thanks to those who have kept on playing! :)

I for one surely don't like fruitcakes. :)

I've tried it I think about twice or thrice and I always get turned off by the taste, maybe because of the rum or the liquor used in it? Or maybe I just haven't tasted anything that good and edible, or maybe I'm weird like that. hehe.

Merry Christmas Maiylah! Early post cause I think you'll be busy already, I'm already composing mine as well. It'll be up later. :)

...yeah, most fruitcakes are just hard to like...guess that's because it didn't originate from us;it came from a different culture (with different taste preferences)...or maybe like what you said, we're weird like that. hehehe... ;)

Merry Christmas too, Madz!

thanks, Halie
...i hope you find a fruitcake that matches your taste. :)

Not a fan of fruitcake too. and ironic because many years ago, I kept saying I don't like it and during a raffle in the school where I teach, I didn't get to win any big prizes, instead I went home with a fruitcake inside a beautiful box decked with Christmas trimming. I kept the box, I gave away the fruitcake :D

Anyway, Merry Christmas and thanks for hosting another year of Food Friday.

I have a scoop of something sweet for you in my post :)

We love fruitcake in our house, the ones made by my mother-in-law. She makes them more cakey and with lots and lots of rum or brandy. Sabi nga ng hubby, isang slice lang mala-lasing ka na. My first American fruitcake, a gift from a relative, was truly horrible and was immediately chucked into the waste bin.:D

Have a wonderful and happy Christmas!
