Food Friday

marang
Actually had these last month...loved it!
Have you ever had them (marang)? Tasted it years ago when hubby's work took him to Mindanao; they might look like langka, or breadfruit, but that's where the similarity ends. For me, anyway. When ripe it tastes soooo sweet, and believe me, I can eat the whole fruit myself! hehehe.

thanks, Lani
..but this isn't kamansi (or breadfruit)...this is different. this is definitely sweeter and juicier thank the breadfruit. :)

I think I had some when I was still there, I am not sure though if it's the same as it's called differently in our place.

@ Chubskulit

many thanks for playing again!:)

@ Jeanny

masarap yan kaya lang minsan yung nabibili namin over-ripe..

maiylah at: Fri Oct 15, 09:31:00 AM GMT+8 said...

thanks, Peachkins
usually we buy them greenish first and it hasn't started to 'smell' yet. we wait till the smell is overpowering (hahaha) and it yields when pressed lightly, then we go on a feast. :)

enjoy your weekend!

I have seen marang from the supermarket, but this is the first time I saw how it looked like inside. Brother would always talk about this whenever he travels to CDO. Nakakatuwa, a friend just called me a few minutes back and he was telling about how he loves durian and marang, and when I asked, he told me marang looks like atis inside, but juicier. Now I know. :)

My post is up HERE, and is also a product of Mindanao. :)

i love marang! but it's been a while since i had some. i indulged a few years ago when i was in bacolod--may plantation d'on owned by Danding Cojuangco.

I've tasted it once when we had projects in GenSan and my officemate brought that and Durian for us. I don't want to taste it at first because I thought it's like Durian but I learned that it's
sweet and very juicy. Meron din bang marang candies?

Just asking :-) anyway here's my entry - Hot Almondigas

@ Race
yup, i think there is probably a marang candy somewhere... :)

Arlene at: Fri Oct 15, 08:34:00 PM GMT+8 said...

Wowwww i wish i can send each of you a marang! dami nyan ngayon dito sa amin...and it costs as cheap as ten pesos or the huge ones like 25 pesos. But nahh it's hard to bring it across the sea because it ripens so fast na pagdating sa luzon it tastes overriped na.

I love marang better than jackfruit. :)

Oggi at: Fri Oct 15, 09:59:00 PM GMT+8 said...

I had this once in Cotabato, I think. One thing is for sure, it had a distinct smell but not as strong as durian.:)
